Oman Vision 2040: The Future of Investment

Overview

Oman Vision 2040 is a wide-ranging blueprint for economic and social development over the next two decades.

The government has devised Vision 2040 to place Oman alongside the developed nations of the world. Alongside this, the Tenth Five-Year Development Plan (2021-2025) represents the executive plan for paving the way to implement the Vision and is aimed at overcoming various challenges to ensure high economic growth rates. This will be done by achieving fiscal balance, increasing non-oil revenues, setting financial and investment incentives for the governorates to stimulate trade and diversification, enhancing human capita, and creating job opportunities.

This event aims to present Vision 2040 to the international community, alongside the strategic financial investments happening in the different growth sectors of the Omani economy. It will be a superb opportunity for government bodies to further explain, elaborate on, and discuss with top-level executives the interactions between different public and private key entities.

It will also allow the business environment to raise the challenges they expect to encounter in the future and understand how those challenges will be tackled by the strategic roadmap outlined by the government. Each speaker on the panel will address one sector of the economy to provide a broader outlook of the policies and programs that are being followed to attain shared goals. Some crucial topics that the speakers will be discussing are capital preservation and high-risk adjusted investment returns, market liberalization, the sizeable opportunities from public and private partnerships, and commitments toward the development of human capital. It will showcase the dedication toward the required transition from a non-oil-based market and the sustainable landscape that is awakening.

HE Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef is the Minister of Commerce, Industry & Investment Promotion. He was appointed Minister of Commerce, Industry & Investment Promotion in August 2020. Additionally, he serves as chairman of the SME Development Authority. Prior to assuming the role of Minister, HE Al Yousef was chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry and CEO of the Al Yousef Group. Earlier in his career, HE Al Yousef spent over 20 years in a variety of senior executive roles in the private sector with interests in oil and gas services, industry, logistics, insurance, and financial services. He holds a master's in business management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Stanford University and a BA in economics from Williams College.

He previously held various senior positions prior to Jabreen Capital including investment director at Oman Investment Fund (OIF) and CEO of National Pioneer Investment & Development Company. He has served within other premier institutions such as the Central Bank of Oman and Oman Refinery. He has more than 21 years of experience in the investment and finance industry, where he has held various leadership positions. He holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting, a master's degree in business administration, and is a certified public accountant.
