"We are extremely optimistic about the economic growth potential in the DRC and are committed to meeting market demand by injecting further capital into our operations."

Adil Rajwani, Managing Director of African Crowns and Packaging (ACP), talks to TBY about workin with the beverage sector and growth potential in the DRC.

What factors originally drew you to the DRC?

Our journey began in 1985 with the establishment of Technotel Graphic Systems, initially focused on commercial printing in the DRC. As we developed our capabilities, breweries in the region approached us to supply beer labels, a product that, at the time, had no local manufacturing options. Recognizing the opportunity, we expanded into label production, becoming the first local provider in this sector. In 2008, we established ACP to meet the additional demand for metal caps. We invested in specialized machinery from Europe and sourced high-quality raw materials from Asia, Latin America, and Europe to ensure premium production standards.

Besides caps and crowns, ACP has moved toward other products in the beverage market. What is the direction ACP is taking to consolidate a broader pool of targets?

In 2021, ACP expanded its portfolio in the DRC by launching a new plastic division dedicated to manufacturing preforms and closures to cater to a broader range of beverages, including water, soft drinks, and spirits. To support this growth, we have recently acquired additional land, and we plan to expand our production capacity further. We anticipate opening a new manufacturing facility by end 2025, which will enable us to better serve our clients and meet the increasing demand in the regional market.

As the DRC grows, how will ACP’s offerings expand?

We are extremely optimistic about the economic growth potential in the DRC and are committed to meeting market demand by injecting further capital into our operations. At the same time, we are pursuing an aggressive expansion strategy across other African economies to capitalize on emerging opportunities. By replicating our proven model from the DRC, we have successfully established a presence in Angola, Uganda, and, most recently, Ghana. Our primary goal is to solidify our position in the DRC while strategically expanding into additional African markets. This balanced approach allows us to support local growth and leverage the continent’s broader economic momentum.
