Jorge Castillo

Director General, UPS Mexico

MAJOR PLAYER

Our 20th anniversary in Mexico was in September 2011, and at that time we introduced what we call “new logistics,“ which is simply the ability to take advantage of UPS’ global infrastructure to make companies in Mexico more competitive.

CUSTOMIZED SOLUTIONS

Manufacturing is a high-growth area for us, but especially the automotive industry. We have many successful customized solutions for major car manufacturers around the world, and that sector is growing in Mexico.

EAGER TO PLEASE

To us, every client is significant, and every package is important. We have a very high level of confidence in our systems and we truly welcome all customers. We have reinvented ourselves many times throughout our history, and have a willingness to adapt to the changing market.

Director General, Logistics Services Network

SOMETHING DIFFERENT

We had always wanted to create something different from the main market players. We realized that in order to increase our value-added to the market, we had to apply an analytical methodology and a mathematical model of operational research appropriate for existing logistics services.

A WIDE SPECTRUM

To offer integrated services, we require partners in analysis software and alliances with transportation companies that reduce the cost of our client operations. We have a number of partnerships with several national and international companies in order to be able to offer our customers a wide spectrum of solutions.

ALL HERE

Mexico could be considered a hub for logistics. Many domestic and international manufacturers choose Mexico as a manufacturing base for exports. Every US and European car manufacturer is present in Mexico, and they export a myriad of products to the US and South America.

SMOOTH TRANSITIONS

In the past, we covered almost the whole industry because we were involved in the container trade, but now we have moved into the oil industry. We are more focused, and much of our activity is centered on petrochemical transport by sea, as well as ports and logistics.

PORTS AND MORE

The benefits Mexico will receive from the development of its port infrastructure will result in it being more competitive and more efficient, and the decision to increase the number of terminals is key to the development of the logistics network in Mexico.

TRANSFER POINT

Mexico is a very strategic location in terms of moving goods from North to South and East to West. Much of the cargo comes from Asia, lands in Mexico, and is transported to the US. When US ports are busy, our ports can readily accept the cargo. This is an aspect that is working well, and we feel there is huge potential.
