General Manager, Marble Medical Center
Bio
Dima Shehadeh is a Syrian entrepreneur based in Qatar. She is currently the General Manager and partnership owner of Marble Medical Center.
Marble Medical Center opened in 2016. The first branch was located in Dafna and specialized in dental, dermatology, and gynecology. We were extremely successful, and in 2020, we opened a hospital, which is currently our main focus now. This is a huge step for Marble Medical Center. We had a major expansion with two surgery ORs. We are a diagnostics center, which means we do surgeries where patients stay for only one or two days. In Qatar, there are only around 15 such medical centers. We are unique because we offer specialized care, which differentiates us from other medical centers in the country. We recently added orthopedic, psychiatric, nutrition, and pediatric care. It will now become a polyclinic, with ENT, dermatology, and dental options. We also have six plastic surgeons here, and our plastic surgery procedures are extremely popular. We have numerous visiting doctors that we have brought in from abroad and as a result are global in our expertise. The center is focused on specialized care. It is rare to find psychiatric or orthopedic specialty clinics in Qatar; not all medical centers here offer them. That is why we focused on providing specialties where we saw a shortage in the country, such as orthopedics, nutrition, and psychiatry.
We have the most advanced technology in the world and always strive to remain up to date with American technologies to shorten procedure times and give our patients the best results. Some patients opt for non-surgical procedures, and we offer machines that are non-invasive. In ENT and dermatology, we have advanced cautery technology to help our surgeons complete the procedures without bleeding. We strive to offer all specialties under one roof, giving patients the peace of mind that they can find everything they need here, including checkups, labs, surgery, and CT scans.
We are always running campaigns. We invite all our patients, public influencers, and well-known personalities in Qatar to our events. We have a calendar with many events scheduled, and our doctors provide information on various topics such as gynecology. We offer this for free to give back to the community, and the aim is to raise awareness of diseases.
It is more challenging for the private sector to be involved in research compared to government initiatives as it requires high levels of investment; however, we are available to support Qatar University medical students who want to train with us. We do not have the capability to fund research ourselves but are willing to do anything we can to support government research initiatives.
It has been growing rapidly, especially over the last two years. Many medical centers are opening, though only the best medical centers will achieve growth in the long term. It is crucial for both private and public healthcare systems to collaborate and enhance the medical system in Qatar. For example, during the pandemic, Hamad Hospital could not conduct all the COVID-19 tests required and partnered with medical centers. We received a huge amount of work and collaborated with Hamad Hospital to support this endeavor.
We plan to expand to another medical center branch that will be separate and under another name. The target is to open it in February 2024. Marble is focused on offering new specialties such as physical therapy and ophthalmology. Insurance will also soon be mandatory, and this may push more patients to utilize private healthcare. We are focused on bringing in more doctors and internal staff.
