"Since its inception, Bayanat had been a mapping and surveying company that undertook traditional aerial and land surveys and generated cartography and maps for municipalities or military uses on a national scale."
Originally a mapping and surveying company, Bayanat has since integrated AI-powered predictive analysis into its processes, leading to increased revenue and the introduction of smart mobility solutions.
What have been the main trends and highlights of recent years?

Since its inception, Bayanat had been a mapping and surveying company that undertook traditional aerial and land surveys and generated cartography and maps for municipalities or military uses on a national scale. The company created the digital terrain modeling for the entire UAE. In March 2020, G42 acquired Bayanat because it saw the potential for growth and synergies, especially as G42 is an AI-driven company. Immediately after the acquisition, we disrupted the existing process and started a journey of injecting AI powered predictive analysis into Bayanat’s day-to-day activities. The visual representation of data took Bayanat’s revenues from USD22 million in 2017 to over USD130 million by 3Q2022. Instead of just creating the maps or the many processes of mapping, we have injected object detection, building detection, and map and land deformations, all powered by AI, into the mix of human processing of those maps. By doing so, we accelerated the process of creating maps. By the end of 2020, we had incremented data processing, and data streaming became optimized. In 2021, we introduced smart mobility solutions, which lie at the intersection of our AI and gIQ capabilities. In 2021, we launched our first autonomous robo taxi, TXAI, which was highly successful, and in 2022, we expanded the project as part of our second phase to introduce more vehicles, buses, and automatic rapid transits (ARTs). Bayanat also focuses on smart operations, which drive the revolution in how entities approach their operations. We provide our customers with the latest AI-powered innovative technological solutions that deliver both superior efficiency and efficacy. Our work spans various operational domains of our clients and fully leverages our digital twin, cloud computing, and AI capabilities.

How much do you value partnerships and alliances?

We strive to be pioneers rather than reinvent the wheel. This is why we are on the constant lookout for start-ups that have the potential to elevate technology. We then help them evolve and scale-up their business model. When Bayanat ventured into mobility, we scouted for companies that were mature enough to deploy their sensors and partnered with them to create synergies. This strategy has taken us to the next level, and Bayanat is always ready to adapt. We are currently working on our high-altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS), which is a large solar drone that rises all the way to the stratosphere, beyond the commercial aviation area, and flies for almost 200 days. It has the potential to acquire valuable environmental imagery and other data via on board sensors. The system is highly sustainable and currently in its testing phase. We are working on a launch soon as part of an exciting partnership with a US-based company.

How is Bayanat aligned with the national vision?

We are always working to advance new technology such as our deployment of the robo taxi, or TXAI, the first in the Middle East. When we successfully launch HAPS, it will also be the first in the Middle East and fifth or sixth globally. We are always pushing boundaries and brining innovation forward. The UAE places great emphasis on space exploration, and this is indeed an area we are advancing in. We are exploring an entire space program, having recently signed a contract with the UAE Space Agency. Bayanat is creating a platform to receive all space imagery or data for multi-data providers and is delivering this platform to the private sector. We are looking for the support of small companies and start-ups to contribute as a third party to this platform or alternatively utilize this data for their own innovations. There is also the environmental aspect and our agenda to contribute to climate action. Our partnership with Ocean X and the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi will also address various challenges such as air quality, emissions control, and maritime conservation. We are well aligned with the UAE’s strategy for innovation and sustainability, as it is embedded in Bayanat’s DNA.
