The Business Year

Dr. Shabeer Nellikode

Founder & Managing Director, Universal Hospital

We have seen many of our milestones materializing over the course of this year. During 2015, we focused on becoming a leading hospital in critical care for children and set up a level-three unit for this, which was ultimately our greatest achievement over the past two years. Since the government has placed healthcare at the top of its priorities, a handful of experts have taken up the responsibility of making it work for everybody. In line with this, we have also streamlined our revenue management system and have developed our IT infrastructure in such a way that we are in line with the needs of the insurance industry. We have electronic systems and databases in place that tell parties how, who, and when to pay for a patient’s treatment. We also acquired another 120-bed hospital to cater for mothers and children and will certainly serve the people of the UAE well.

Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil

Managing Director, VPS Healthcare

The UAE is becoming more innovative and creative. There has been large investment in education, entrepreneurship, and new talent. In that sense, R&D will become a critical part of the country’s future by contributing enormously to its economic development and will complement its core economic areas. The targets stipulated by Vision 2030 are slowly being achieved, and steadily most companies and institutions have embarked on creating a competitive business environment for all. VPS is no stranger to this long-term vision and we are happy to be contributing to this goal from our own field of activity. We are contributing to the development of R&D in the country by moving out from the conventional hospital base into the manufacturing industry for the healthcare sector, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and into the manufacturing of oncology medicines, which show great potential. We have also become an IT-based hospital, which will put us in great stead for the future.

CEO, Clancey Francisco Po

We are currently managing three projects simultaneously that we aim to open in the next two years. The first is a 240,000sqm day surgery center in Al Reem Island, the largest of its kind in the Middle East with 82 clinics and over a thousand employees, which will open in April 2017. In May 2017, we will start the Burjeel Royal Hospital in Al Ain, a 100-bed facility that will serve as a cornerstone for our coverage of this part of Abu Dhabi. The third project is the Burjeel Medical City, which is set to open in May 2018. Once completed, it will feature the largest oncology hospital in the MENA region. With cancer rates increasing, we decided to take a bold step in battling this disease through four linear accelerators and access to gamma ray therapy, CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery system, brachytherapy, and bone marrow transplants that will turn this center into the number-one oncology hospital in the Middle East.
