Executive President, Truckslogic

Born in Barcelona, Pedro Ruíz is a specialist in last mile logistics. His logistics career saw him working with large European companies, which earned him recognition among the 100 most successful entrepreneurs in Spain. He was a co-founder and CEO of a Transport and Distribution company in Spain with a fleet of more than 2,000 vehicles. In 2005, he founded Truckslogic Consulting in Panama, a company with a unique distribution model which manages to patent and replicate in other Latin American countries. He is also the creator of a disruptive transport application called Smartrans.

Truckslogic is a logistics consultant operating in Panama on the principle that more efficient transport means savings across the value chain.

What are the most outstanding aspects of the company in operational terms?

At the operational level, the most significant achievement during 2019 has been controlling a 40% market share and the entry of Argos, with Banistmo as our financial arm and Autostar as our vehicle supplier. This contract has been an important challenge for us. It gives the company a significant boost in the private sector. We have left a bit of our traditional logistics line since our customers, and our know-how is focused on medicines and cold, dry, frozen, and multi-temperature food products. Also, we maintain two important certifications: ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 for food safety. This has been the heart of the business during all these years.

How do you make sure to increase the distribution productivity of your clients by 40%?

The heart of the business is to optimize logistics, which translates into savings. We have achieved this as a model that has an intellectual property, where the most important element is the driver of our vehicles, the Microempresario, is an entrepreneur in logistics. The technology joins the equipment and our in-house dedication with an expert team, prepared with us. Our staff members deal with our in-house clients in a dedicated and personalized manner and on a full-time basis. Our Micreoempresario, on the other hand, are important because they do not work motivated by a salary, but by productivity based on their efficiency.

Are you interested in expanding even more?

The Dominican Republic has a significant tourism and inter-annual growth. Today, we have a strong presence in that country; we are currently the second transport company and hope to become the first in one or two more years. In fact, some are replicated clients from Panama such as Nestlé, PepsiCo, Levapan, and InBev, which has become the largest beer group on the planet. We also have Grupo Ramos, the most important supermarket chain in Dominicana. In 2019, we decided that the model could fit well in Guatemala, because its size is similar to the Dominican Republic. The mass consumption companies, our main clients, such as Nestlé, PepsiCo, and Levapan, have their regional offices in Guatemala.

What social responsibility and business activities do you develop?

Two years ago, we created the first transport operation degree together with Georgia Tech and the INADEH. So far, 150 graduates have the degree, and we will continue supporting this initiative because we owed it to the country. It was not possible for a logistics country not to have a degree for a transport and cargo logistics operation. Additionally, we gave the degree for microentrepreneurs, and we have a simulator for practice management. This program professionalizes cargo transport, which increases productivity and efficiency. Truckslogic was able to integrate Georgia Tech and the governmental organs.

What are your goals for 2019?

We created an application that took three years of development and a lot of investment. Its name is Smartrans, and it will operate in 2019. This platform will provide support for a real logistics solution for the markets. The platform has a technology where the customer can request a truck in real time. The application has been a great challenge in 2019, but we have already exceeded 24,000 trips, with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5. It is a high-quality application that offers high-quality service, with fair and competitive prices. 100% of the carriers accept the trips, because we have analyzed the market well.
