The Business Year

Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi

Chairman, Ajman Tourism Development Department

Salem Ahmed Musabbeh Al Suwaidi

Directing General, Ajman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI)

The Emirate's chamber and tourism development department are working around the clock to develop thoughtful and innovative strategies to ensure its past growth translates into future prosperity.

How do you intend to boost Ajman’s growth?

SHEIKH ABDULAZIZ BIN HUMAID AL NUAIMI Our primary focus is on increasing the number of visitors to Ajman, so the department is working continuously to be present in local, regional, and international trade and travel exhibitions. This includes ITB Berlin, OTM Mumbai, ATM Dubai, and WTM London, which provide a platform to promote and strengthen awareness about the destination. This is in tandem with our own roadshows and sales trips. The former target market-centric destinations, such as China and the GCC, are effective at meeting key stakeholders face-to-face for a longer period to discuss business matters and collaboration. We have also utilized e-services through our mobile application and are active on social media, so visitors and residents are informed of activities and events in Ajman. We also have a website dedicated to Ajman as a tourism destination where travelers, investors, and even residents can navigate and discover the many attractions, accommodations, activities, and facilities in the Emirate.

SALEM AHMED MUSABBEH AL SUWAIDI In line with the Ajman Vision 2021 that has been dictated by HH Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, the Emirate is witnessing a significant growth in various sectors. The vision features five major pillars: the green industrial sector, tourism, transportation and logistics, outsourcing, and new technologies. The vision’s social focus concentrates on maximizing the wellness of the community in Ajman, notably investment in health as well as education. This means we are focusing on seven major sectors. Ajman Chamber plays a key role in promoting these in collaboration with all government departments, as we look forward to speeding up their growth, especially the industrial sector, which contributes around 35% to the Ajman economy.

What kind of investments are you making to ensure that visitors will continue to see Ajman as a top destination?

SABHAN Cultural tourism plays a major role in showcasing this growth to both foreign visitors and residents who want to know more about the country’s past, present, and future. This unique segment of the UAE’s tourism industry is considered key to the economy because tourists who come to the UAE for its culture and history have a higher per-trip spend than those who come for the sun. The Ajman Museum is one of the main historical attractions in the UAE. It is an old fortress that has been transformed into an integrated museum displaying models of antiquities, traditional industries, and artifacts as well as images portraying the way of life in the past. The museum aims to introduce the nature of life in the UAE before the discovery of oil. Aside from the city of Ajman, the Emirate also has jurisdiction over two enclaves in the UAE: Al Manama, located in the east of Ajman, and Masfout, located in the south near Hatta. Masfout is a summer retreat for residents of Ajman because its elevation and distance from the city offer a cooler climate and fresh breeze. The rocky countryside surrounding the town is ideal for walking, mountain hiking, picnics, and wadi exploration.

SAMAS Under the directive of HH Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Ajman Chamber believes that education and building human resources is the best investment. When we invest in education, we develop a well-educated community that can contribute to enriching society and the local economy. The Ajman Chamber annually organizes, in collaboration with other government departments, the Ajman Education and Training Exhibition (AETEX). The 2017 event was held under the slogan of “Towards a New Era of Innovative Education.” We are now working on developing a detailed manual that can demonstrate to the public and private sectors the business map in Ajman. The manual is a guide for investors to know which documents they will need, procedures, and channels they should approach. It helps investors get everything they need in terms of feasibility studies, options for partnerships, benefits, markets, and available facilities. Even if there is no tender, any investor can propose a project that might fit well for the Emirate of Ajman.
