ARTIC recently announced the opening of JW Marriott Berlin. How significant is this achievement for ARTIC, and what strategies does the company use when expanding to new destinations?

At ARTIC, we always strive to ensure that our investments have a distinctive presence in the markets in which we operate, and have an added value that helps truly differentiate our market offering. The rebranding of this hotel—to be operated by Marriott International under the JW brand—is widely seen as being an improvement in the quality and services provided to guests. We are proud of our long-term partnership with Marriott International, an important and valuable partner, and our opening of the JW Marriott Hotel Berlin is a testament to our shared vision of hospitality and commitment to serving guests in distinctive and innovative ways. Qatar and Germany enjoy a strong relationship and promising strategic partnerships. This investment in Berlin is not only an indication of the attractive nature of the hospitality market in Germany, but also reflects ARTIC’s desire to be present in the world’s most distinctive cities.

How are ARTIC’s policies aligned with the government’s ambitions regarding Qatar’s National Vision 2030?

We are committed to aligning with the massive development seen in the tourism sector in Qatar and to meeting the Qatar National Tourism Vision. As such, we have provided the hospitality sector with 12 hotels, all of which carry some of the finest hotel brands in cooperation with the best international hotel operators. These hotels offer several different experiences to serve the diverse expectations and requirements of tourists, including features that attract those traveling for business, those looking for recreation and beach retreats, and others that wish to spend time in nature away from the busy city crowds. Qatar enjoys exceptional ad-vantages, as reflected in the development of its tourism and hospitality sectors, and we are constantly looking for strategic opportunities to expand and unlock value for the company and the local market.

What strategies does ARTIC use in order to help Qatar establish itself as a regional and global touristic hub?

At ARTIC, we always look forward to being part of the vital role played by the private sector in promoting the growth of Qatar’s tourism industry by enhancing and diversifying our investments in hospitality, attracting the best international operators to ensure the highest efficiency and quality of services, and investing in related and integrated sectors. This ensures synergies between our business operations and creates new opportunities, as well as advancing our commitment to continuous development to keep pace with the latest requirements of the sector.

What is your outlook for the future growth of Qatar’s tourism sector?

The world has seen a significant increase in demand for global travel after recovering from the consequences of the pandemic, meaning that the global growth prospects for the hospitality industry are now stronger than ever. The global hospitality market is expected to grow by more than 4% annually to reach USD483.4 billion by 2027, according to statistics, underscoring the promising opportunities for hospitality companies to grow and enhance their investments. Qatar is in a great position to benefit from the increased global demand for travel, especially after hosting the 2022 World Cup. This event contributed greatly to strengthening its position in the global tourism market, adding advanced infra-structure along with luxury hotels and resorts while demonstrating the country’s capabilities to host the most important global events. Qatar is directing its efforts toward attracting an even greater number of visitors, about 6 million annually by 2030. This will be achieved by adopting a comprehensive approach to promoting the country as a major tourism destination and enhancing cooperation between the government and private sector. Through doing so, Qatar will develop new hospitality products and experiences, increasing efforts with partners to achieve a safe and sustainable recovery for the local tourism sector.
