International companies are working hard to support sustainability initiatives in the Middle East, with products and solutions that reduce emissions and fuel consumption while delivering greater efficiency and reliability.

Rami Arakji

General Manager, Xmile

XMILE is a Dutch company that started investigating and development of a biological catalyst in 1995 and is currently present in 32 countries covering Europe, the Middle East, and South America. Since then and for over two decades, XMILE has been used as a biological fuel additive helping customers reduce fuel consumption by at least 5-7% and reducing GHG emissions and particles up to 35%, thus enhancing performance in combustion installations like boilers and internal combustion engines. We are LEAN & GREEN certified, which means that every liter of XMILE is certified to reduce 2.2 tons of carbon emissions. With the whole green agenda gaining global traction, many countries are pushing for decarbonization. The national visions of the UAE and Saudi Arabia have ambitious targets. Once they achieve 7-10% savings with XMILE, we would help the government achieve decarbonization at a ratio of around 50% of their 2030 target seven years ahead of schedule, which is game changing for the whole industry. Given we have now established our presence in the region through successful productions with leading companies across different industries, our target now is to shift the product awareness to the public sector for a wider application and decarbonizing the entire supply chain.

Jan Zschommler

Market Area Manager Middle East & Africa, DNV

Generally, DNV is a service provider for independent assurance and advisory. We have been in the UAE for almost 40 years, and the local branch office was created to support the nation’s developing oil and gas sector. Today, DNV UAE has over 300 people located in three offices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Fujairah. Our role is to serve the entire energy industry; in addition to the oil and gas and renewable and power grids industry, we also serve the maritime and other relevant industries in the country. The energy industry is important for the UAE’s wealth and future. Our most prominent services include independent verification, certifications, inspections, and technical advisory around integrity, corrosion, and safety studies. We do a great deal of marine assurance as well, where we work with offshore installation contractors and offshore operators for marine services. Furthermore, we are active in the renewables and power grid sector. Overall, DNV provides a broad range of services globally and locally in the UAE. Historically, DNV has been known for its offshore upstream oil and gas and maritime activities. However, over the years we have developed in the onshore downstream sector, which is of growing importance locally as the UAE focuses on downstream diversification.

Sales Territory Manager, Caterpillar Oil & Gas Middle East

We have seen steady growth in the demand for our well service and drilling products across the UAE resulting from Caterpillar’s focus on providing comprehensive solutions that are customized to meet the unique needs of each oil and gas company. As oil and gas operators and oilfield service providers in the region look to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, we help our customers achieve their climate-related objectives by supplying several engines to support new rig builds. We continuously develop products and solutions that reduce emissions and fuel consumption while delivering greater efficiency and reliability, as sustainability and performance must be achieved simultaneously. Key industry companies in the UAE have also shown tremendous interest in our hybrid energy storage solutions. We leverage smart systems to help customers optimize their sites to unlock higher levels of efficiency and savings. We back all of our technologies with industry-leading expertise and services that are available locally and globally. From configuration to installation to operation, we service and support diesel, gas, and mobile generator sets; microgrids; automatic transfer switches; and switchgears. With more than 300 products and a growing range of service and technology offerings, we are setting the standard in oil and gas.
